One of the most famous tourist attractions will not disappoint you. That is, if you avoid the expected crowds and visit it ideally on a weekday. The narrow streets between several former military houses were frequented by around 1,000,000 visitors a year before the covid pandemic! The flood of crazy drawings in bright colours everywhere you look is in fact even more impressive than in the photos. If you're lucky you'll see the author of the whole idea and the fighter for the preservation of these houses called Rainbow Grandpa right at work. Parking options in the area are rather tragic, it is highly recommended to use the bus service to get to the site. You can find it at No. 25, Lane. 56, Chun-an Rd., Nantun Dist., Taichung 408 (check the website at https://www.1949rainbow.com.tw/ to see if the village is open to the public)
If you are in Taichung or its surroundings, this museum is exactly the place not to miss. The museum is located on the site of the original school, which was completely devastated by the terrible earthquake of September 21, 1999. You can see its power by walking the entire tour, which, in addition to exhibits explaining the general origin and progression of different types of earthquakes or an exhibition of photographs taken shortly after the event, passes right by the rubble of the school buildings and a literally shattered athletic oval. An experience you won't forget is the 1999 earthquake simulator in the padded room. There is an entrance fee to the facility, and parking is available at the main entrance. No. 192, Xinsheng Road, Wufeng District, Taichung City.
A high-quality museum with its famous Life Science Hall exhibition, which includes giant animated and sounding dinosaurs, awaits you in the North district in Taichung, especially to the delight of children. There is, of course, an entrance fee to the museum and feel free to expect to spend half a day in the exhibits. Check the museum's website for information on current exhibitions, of which there are always several. Be sure to combine your visit with a visit to the nearby botanical gardens. Well recommended!
